About This Project
This private road winds through a wooded hillside. We cut the roadbed into the slope to widen and straighten the travel lane and shaped the bank above it so it stays stable.
Before any rock went down, we rolled out geotextile fabric over the native soil. The fabric keeps the gravel from pushing down into the mud, which is one of the most common reasons rural roads rut and wash out in wet Oregon winters.
A layer of larger base rock went on next, topped with finer gravel for a smooth, compacted driving surface. The result is a road that drains well and holds up to everyday traffic and heavy equipment alike.
Work Performed
- Hillside cut and roadbed widening
- Geotextile fabric under the rock base
- Base rock and gravel surfacing
- Grading for drainage off the road surface
